The Post is reporting that the Board of Education will name Jack Smith as the new superintendent of schools at a meeting tonight.
Montgomery County is expected to name Jack R. Smith, Maryland’s interim state superintendent of schools, as its new schools chief Thursday evening, ending a year-long search for a leader for the state’s largest school system, according to two people with knowledge of the selection process.
The people familiar with the selection spoke on the condition of anonymity because the name is not supposed to be publicly released until the school board’s scheduled announcement Thursday evening.

Jack Smith became Maryland’s interim state superintendent of schools in September, taking the state’s top education post following the departure of superintendent Lillian M. Lowery. Lowery left Maryland to take a nonprofit education job in Ohio.
Jack Smith has worked for the state since 2013, when he was hired as chief academic officer, following seven years as superintendent in Calvert County, in southern Maryland.
