Liz Matory has spent the past few months running for Congress as an independent, having switched her party affiliation from Democrat to Independent. Tomorrow morning, she will be on blog radio with Republican blogger Ryan Miner to make a “special announcement.”
Maryland Scramble minions have been working feverishly to learn the nature of the announcement and to verify this story, and we now have confirmation. Liz Matory, a Democrat when she announced for Congress, and later an independent, is now a Republican. Here’s Matory’s candidate filing with the State Board of Elections from earlier today:
She’s described herself as “post-partisan.” She’s been a candidate with three different party affiliations since the summer; I think the correct description ought to be “omni-partisan” or perhaps “pan-partisan.”
All kidding aside, Matory’s move makes a certain degree of sense, as two potential GOP candidates have recently elected not to run in CD8, and the only other filed candidate is Shelly Skolnick. Matory might just win the primary. I know I’ll be pulling for her.
C’mon: Matory is a Democrat who is in a rage because local Dems (and check-writers) didn’t swoon for Valerie Ervin last summer. You and Bill Turque are paying WAY too much attention to her.
