It might be premature, and it might not even hold up, but it’s a smart move. People on the east coast are going to bed soon, and when they do, all they’re going to know is that Clinton declared victory before they went to bed and Bernie Sanders didn’t. Think Bush 2000 in Florida, think Bill Clinton 1992, and Mitt Romney 2012 in Iowa.
